It is different from Beijing's and other places' candied haws, Harbin's candied haws have more sugar so that it is sticky. Having a bite of candied haws, they are glutinous to your teeth, leaving sweetness in your mouth and heart. Children's red cheeks and little hands cast beautiful reflection with the candied haws in their hands. Harbin People string their prosperous life with the red candied haws.
Because of its peculiar history and imported western culture, Harbin, the active city with exotic flavour is shrouded in the mysterious colour. The easily seen-western style dinning halls, bars, the life full of beer, sausages and dalieba (big bread) express the enticing and romantic tenderness.
The soft night in the neon light, the soft music and soft dancing steps in the bars go through the upward curling coffee fragrance. Listening to the accordion music and drinking the Volga wine, your heart will become light and you can not help singing with the long-hair singer.
Harbin Sausage
The original name of Harbin sausage is Daolis, imported from Russia, with almost one hundred years' history. Adopting traditional European processing workmanship and with carefully selected materials, Harbin Sausage remains fresh, lustrous and wrinkled in appearance. It has a kind of smoke fragrance and tastes good. Harbin Sausage is the pride of Harbin People and loved and unforgotten by tourists.
Dalieba (in Russian means‘big bread')
One of the bizarreness of Harbin is that“ Bread is as big as a pot cover”. The bread like pot cover is called “dalieba”. The workmanship is exquisite and complicated. The yeast put in the flour is taken from beer after being fermented for there times. For baking the bread ,first some hard wood such as oak tree is put into the oven for fire-cure so that the oven will have the smell of wood ,then put the bread into the oven and the baked bread will have the fragrant smell of wood too.
Dalieba has already become the local special product of Harbin. Almost all the tourists will buy several pieces of Dalieba to take home as souvenir.
The proverb “Nothing is more delicious than jiaozi” (dumplings) shows Harbin People's preference for the food jiaozi. Harbin People love boiled dumplings, especially frozen dumplings. When the New Year and other festivals coming. each family will make many dumplings and put them outside for freezing. When they want to eat, just take them to cook ....
Tourists from the south are bound to be surprised that in such cold weather, Harbin People still like cold food. No matter how cold the weather is. Harbin People's enthusiasm for cold food never decreases. They like to eat doubao (buns with sweetened bean paste fillings also made of glutinous rice flour), frozen pear, candied haws on a stick, ice-lolly and ice cream in winter. They even freeze steamed when the New Year is coming .The more cold the more they like to eat cold food, and this is just Harbin People's Cuisine characteristic.
